Are Veneers the Right Choice For You?
Are you in need of a smile makeover? Maybe you have a discolored tooth, or perhaps your teeth are worn down from grinding them at night. Or maybe you have a chipped tooth from a childhood injury. Whatever imperfection you want to correct, one of the most conservative and effective ways to improve the appearance of your teeth are veneers. But are veneers the right treatment option for you?
What They Are
Veneers are thin, natural looking “shells” that are permanently bonded to the front of your teeth. They can be made out of porcelain (which is more stain resistant) or resin composite materials that match the color of your teeth. Veneers can change the color, shape, or size of your teeth without surgery and without dozens of trips to our office.
Once you’ve determined that it’s finally time to improve your smile, we’ll talk to you about treatment options. If we decide that you are an ideal candidate for veneers, then we will schedule an appointment to begin the process. First, we will prepare your teeth by removing a very thin layer of enamel from the surface of your teeth. Next, we will make an impression that will be used to make your veneers. At your next appointment, we will perfect the shape of the veneers before permanently bonding them to your teeth. Once they are completely attached, we will work with you to make sure your bite is correct and that you are comfortable with your new veneers.
Benefits and Drawbacks
Veneers are one of our favorite solutions for a reason. Not only do they look natural, but they are stain-resistant, as well. If cared for properly, veneers can last from seven to fifteen years.
The drawbacks are that veneers are permanent; once they’re bonded to your teeth, they’re there to stay. Veneers aren’t ideal for those who grind their teeth, as doing so could cause the veneers to chip or crack.
